AMERICASMART – GIFT MART 2
As “the world’s largest wholesale marketplace”, AmericasMart Atlanta embarked on a major expansion effort.
With more than 500,000 attendees annually, AmericasMart invested in a 1.5 million SF addition that connects with its three other buildings creating a wholesale marketplace hub in downtown Atlanta.
This project consisted of extensive environmental site assessment and remediation for the 1.5 million SF of expansion to AmericasMart in Atlanta, Georgia. With a visionary client who was persistent and determined to reclaim this valuable property and reintroduce it into Atlanta’s economic infrastructure, Willmer was selected to strategically plan, implement and facilitate asbestos, lead-based paint and petroleum hydrocarbon assessments, on-site remediation and a geotechnical investigation for the building expansion to achieve the client’s goal.
Willmer completed a multi-task scope of work that included a Phase II Environmental Site Assessment, specifications and contract documents for asbestos and lead-based paint abatement monitoring, management of onsite source removal, subsurface exploration, geotechnical engineering evaluation, and quality assurance testing during foundation construction. With Willmer’s guidance and support, the client facilitated negotiations for cost allocation of remediation activities with the original transportation terminal’s operator.
Willmer’s systematic approach allowed seamless transitions throughout the project, providing significant cost benefits to the owner. The ability to promptly respond to cost and schedule impacts such as the implementation of an abatement controlled roof collapse, collection and treatment of impacted groundwater during the excavation of contaminated subsurface soils, and value engineering during soil removal activities and foundation construction were project hallmarks.
