Project
Cobb County Airport Construction Project at McCollum Field
Willmer provided geotechnical engineering construction materials acceptance testing services as part of Cobb County Airport Authority’s improvements to McCollum Field.
Willmer has performed many geotechnical investigations at McCollum Field for rehabilitation and new construction projects involving the taxiways, runways, and aprons over the last 10 years.
Geotechnical engineering projects include Taxiway ‘A’ rehabilitation, runway widening and drainage improvements, South Parallel Taxiway realignment, South Apron expansion, and the future Taxiway ‘B’ relocation.
Construction materials acceptance testing projects included improvements on the Runway ‘9’ Safety Overrun Area, which included extending Runway ‘9’ and Parallel Taxiway ‘A’, constructing a new holding apron and stub taxiways ‘A4’ and ‘A7’, and re-grading the safety overrun areas at each end of Runway ‘9’. Willmer tested In-Place Embankment/Select Fill P-152, Crushed Aggregate Base Course P-209, and Bituminous Surface Course P-401 and supplied a full-time Airport Technician who conducted quality acceptance testing during all construction phases.
Willmer also completed the geotechnical exploration and construction materials testing work for the rehabilitation and expansion of the north apron between the restaurant and eastward to the control tower.
